Tyla was born Tyla Laura Seethal on January 30, 2002 in Johannesburg, South Africa. Her parents are of Zulu, Indian, Mauritian, and Irish descent. She attended Edenglen high school.
Career
Tyla started by posting covers of songs on her Instagram page before being discovered by her first manager who then organised her first recording sessions.
She came through with her debut single titled Getting Late” in 2019 and was accompanied with a music video.
She signed a recording contract with Epic records and released singles like “To Last” and “Overdue”. She released the song “Been Thinking” in 2023 and earned her first chart placement on the Billboard Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart.
Tyla collaborated with the Nigerian singer Ayra Starr on the single “Girl Next Door” in May 2023. She came to the limelight for her single “Water” released in July 2023.
