Matsie Angelina Motshekga ( born June 19, 1955) well known as Angie Motshekga is a South African politician and Educator. She is the minister of Basic education in South Africa. She had taught in High School and was appointed a lecturer before she delved into politics.

Early Life
Angie Motshekga was born on June 19, 1955 in Soweto, a town in Johannesburg in Gauteng, South Africa.
She had her primary and secondary education in Soweto. She obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education at the University of the North.. She also obtained a Bachelor of Educational Science degree and a master’s degree at the University of the Witwatersrand, Mota.
Career
She started her teaching career at the Orlando High School before she resigned and was appointed a lecturer at the Soweto College of Education. She also became a lecturer at the University of Witwatersrand in 1985 where she had lectured for almost 9 years.
She delved into politics and became a member of the Soweto Education Committee that later formed part of the National Education. Coordinating Committee. She was also a member of the National Education Union of South Africa and the United Democratic Front.
Angie was also active in the Pimville Civic Association. She was the National Convenor of Teacher Unity talks that led to the formation of the South African Democratic Teachers Union.
She became a director in the office of the presidency from 1994 to 1997 and was elected Deputy Provincial Secretary of the ANCWL in 1997.
Angie was sworn in as a member of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature in 1999 and was appointed chairperson of the legislature’s education committee. She was transferred to the Social Development portfolio of the Executive Council by Premier Mbhazima Shilowa in 2000.
She returned for a second term in the legislature after the general elections of 2004 and in 2008, she was elected the national president of the ANC women’s league. She was also elected to the National Assembly in April 2009.
On May 11, 2009, Angie Motshekga was appointed Minister of Basic Education. Although she was removed from her position as Women’s League President in August 2015, by 2019 she became the longest serving education minster in the history of South Africa.
