Freedom Phuthuma Nhleko (born April 7, 1960) is a popular South African entrepreneur. He became known as the executive chairman of MTN group, a South African multinational mobile telecommunications company. He also founded the Pembani Remgro Infrastructure Fund alongside Johann Rupert, in 2012.

Early Life
Phuthuma Nhleko was born on April 7, 1960 in Kwa-Themas, Springs, South Africa.
He obtained a bachelors degree in Civil engineering from Ohio State University and an MBA in Finance from Atlanta University.
Career
Nhleko founded Worldwide African Investment Holdings, an investment holding company with interest in the petroleum, telecommunications, and information technology industries, in 1994.
He also became the chief executive chairman of MTN group in 2002 and in 2007, he was appointed to the Board of directors of the GSM Association (GSMA), the global trade association for mobile phone operators, where he served for a two-year term.
Before now, he had been a senior member of the Standard Corporate & Merchant Bank corporate finance team. He also practiced as a civil engineer and project manager for the Urban foundation, and also became a senior road engineer for the Ministry of works in Swaziland.
He founded the Pembani Remgro Infrastructure Fund alongside Johann Rupert, in 2012.
